Ji-Li Jang surrived red China's Glorious Cultural Revolution; possibly Chairman Mao's biggest mistake.  ji-Li's world is turned upside down by insatiable quest by her peers to eradicate the four-olds from society.  Pants with legs narrower then 9 inches were cut off on the streets.  Pointed shows, taboo.  Good Fortune Photo Studio was to ''èlite'', it was renammed the Proleterian Photo Studio.  Ji-Li suffers because her grandpa was a landowner.  And land owning was exploitive of the lower class.  Ji-Li must aviod her affluent past.  The Red Guards are on the patrol for rouge citizans who do not remold their idologies from their old ways.  Ironically, the guard leading the way are no other then Ji-Li's peers.  Those that did not do well at school, now discover their power as members of the Young Pioneers.
