Vindicated
by: Dashboard Confessional Album: Spider-Man 2 Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture
Hope dangles on a string Like slow spinning redemption Winding in and winding out The shine of which has caught my eye And roped me in So mesmerizing, so hypnotizing I am captivated [Chorus] I am Vindicated I am selfish I am wrong I am right I swear I'm right I swear I knew it all along And I am flawed But I am cleaning up so well I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself So clear Like the diamond in your ring Cut to mirror your intentions Oversized and overwhelmed The shine of which has caught my eye And rendered me so isoloated, so motivated I am certain now that [Chorus] So turn Up the corners of your lips Part them and feel my finger tips Trace the moment, fall forever Defense is paper thin Just one touch and I'd be in Too deep now to ever swim against the current So let me slip away [3x] So let me slip against the current and let me slip away [4x] [Chorus] Slight hope It dangles on a string Like slow spinning redemption...
vin·di·cate (vĭn'dĭ-kāt') #To clear of accusation, blame, suspicion, or doubt with supporting arguments or proof: “Our society permits people to sue for libel so that they may vindicate their reputations” (Irving R. Kaufman). #To provide justification or support for: vindicate one's claim. #To justify or prove the worth of, especially in light of later developments. #To defend, maintain, or insist on the recognition of (one's rights, for example). #To exact revenge for; avenge.
"Vindicated" tells the narrator's story. Her life is one of conflict. At first she is hopeful, right after her marriage. In her youthful exuberance she is different then how she is later in her life. Once she figures out how hard life it, she is different. Life looks good right after marriage, but then everything changes when reality sets in. Her life "dangles on a string;" it's ready to tear at any moment. Never does her life remain stable; even in a small rural village her life is volatile, perhaps even more so then in modern American society. Is her life vindicated, or worth something in the end?
Life is a Highway
by: Rascal Flatts Album: Cars Soundtrack
Life's like a road that you travel on When there's ne day here and the next day gone Somethimes you bend and sometimes you stand Sometimes you turn your head to the wind There's a world outside ev'ry darkened door Where blues won't haunt you anymore Where brave are free and lovers soar Come ride with me to the distant shore We won't hesitate Break down the garden's gate There's not much time left today Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long Through all these cities and all these towns It's in my blood and it's all around I love you now like I loved you then This is the road and these are the hands From Mozambique to those Memphis nights The khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights Knock me down get back up again You're in my blood I'm not a lonely man There's no load I can't hold Road so rough this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Just tell 'em we're survivors Gimme gimme gimme gimme yeah If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long There was a distance between you and I A misunderstanding once But now we look in the eye There ain't no load that I can't hold Road so rough this I know I'll be there when the light comes in Just tell 'em we're survivors Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long
Although the narrator has never heard of an automobile, her life is a journey, even though she rarely traveled. Life has it's up and downs, and rough spots. But overall it is a positive experience. It brings people together and closer, as her trials and tribulations only brought her closer to her husband. Sometimes for a short bit they fought, but it was soon made up. When she journeys to the city, her life takes a dramatic change. The city turned out to be a wrong turn in the highway of life, but in the end she manages to survive. The book ends as she is back with her family at home happy.
Karz Theme
Album: Bollywood Dream Theme Artist: DJ Amit
This instrumental track from India tells the story which the narrator travels. It starts out with her marriage, a magical time full of hope and promise. As with all Indian celebrations, the oldest is lavishly spoiled while the last in the family has nothing. Married life starts out slow, with only a daughter for the first few years. But all of a sudden, it takes off. Year after year, another son is born. Then her life is up and down. From a rich harvest to drought and famine, the narrator's life is very dynamic. Toward the end of her life she is forced off her land into the crowded city. But soon she returns safe and sound. Overall, the energy of this score mirrors the narrator's life.
One Step Closer
by: Linkin Park
I cannot take this anymore I'm saying everything I've said before All these words they make no sense I find bliss in ignorance Less I hear the less you'll say But you'll find that out anyway Just like before... Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I find the answers aren't so clear Wish I could find a way to disappear All these thoughts they make no sense I find bliss in ignorance Nothing seems to go away Over and over again Just like before... Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break Break break break break break shut up when I'm talking to you shut up shut up shut up shut up when I'm talking to you shut up shut up shut up shut up I’m about to break Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break Break break break break break break shut up when I'm talking to you shut up shut up shut up shut up when I'm talking to you shut up shut up shut up shut up I’m about to break Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break Everything you say to me Takes me one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break I need a little room to breathe Cause I'm one step closer to the edge And I'm about to break
One step closer to the edge, And I'm about to break.
This is how Nathan and the narrator feel when they are forced off of their land where they lived and farmed for over 30 years. They decide to go to one of their sons who lives far away in a city. Once they arrive they are mislead many times, the items they were carrying where stolen, and they find out their son left his wife years ago. This pushes the narrator and her husband very close to the breaking point, as they where in a foreign place with no money, no friends, and no place to stay.
QWERTY

Your LIIIEEEEESSSS!!!! (grunt) Rah! Yeah, I didn't think that I had a debt to pay Till they came to take all I had left away You said you did't put me to the test today But I remember you saying that yesterday There was a time when your mind wasn't out of control Every memory and confession pouring out of your soul Like a pill you couldn't swallow, and it swallowed you whole Another lie, hard to follow, till they followed you home And like that Broken down, a victim of your... Lies You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You crossed the line Wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind, lies You're lost inside that cold disguise Behind your lies... I don't know what you thought I might say Seems like we never would talk the right way Every other minute I fought for my place And drop what I made, And thought you might stay So, I'm guessing that you probably know When your insides hollow then you ought to be cold Like a pill I couldnt swallow, and it swallowed me whole Another lie, hard to follow, till it followed me home And like that (Broken down, a victim of your...) Lies You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You crossed the line Wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind, lies You're lost inside that cold disguise Behind your lies... (grunt) Rraaaah! You're faking, you're mistaken If you think that you could climb out of this hole Forsaken, what we take with All the lies above the power of control Broken down, a victim of your Lies You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You hide behind, Wrapped up inside Your lies You hide behind, lies You don't know, why You crossed the line Wrapped up inside, Your Lies You hide behind, lies You're lost inside that cold disguise
A victim of your lies, you hide behind, lies you don't know. When you crossed the line, wrapped up in your lies
These words from the song apply to the narrator and her daughter, Ira. Ira becomes a prostitute in order to earn direly needed money to feed the family. The parents are stunned that Ira would turn to this profession, but they do not push it onto her. They feel that if anyone happens to find out about Ira's new job, their family will be shunned and disrespected in the public eye. Thus they are forced to "lie" about Ira's profession.
The Reason
by: Hoobastank
I'm not a perfect person There's many things I wish I didn't do But I continue learning I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I've found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I'm sorry that I hurt you It's something I must live with everyday And all the pain I put you through I wish that I could take it all away And be the one who catches all your tears That's why I need you to hear I've found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you (x4) I'm not a perfect person I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I've found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new and the reason is you I've found a reason to show A side of me you didn't know A reason for all that I do And the reason is you
I chose to use the song “The Reason” by Hoobastank because it relates to the part in Nectar in a Sieve where the narrator goes back into their home to see Ira, since she savagely attacked her. The narrator thinks that she is someone else because it is dark out and she can only see her back. Afterwards, she is very ashamed of what she did. In the song it says:
I'm sorry that I hurt you it's something I must live with everyday and all the pain I put you through I wish that I could take it all away and be the one who catches all your tears
This stanza basically shows what the narrator was saying and thinking after she attacked Ira, and went into see her. She obviously felt very bad after she did this and the mood of the song is also very soothing and mournful sounding and this is another reason why I used this song.
Wonderwall
by: Oasis
Today is gonna be the day That they're gonna throw it back to you By now you should've somehow Realized what you gotta do I don't believe that anybody Feels the way I do about you now Backbeat the word was on the street That the fire in your heart is out I'm sure you've heard it all before But you never really had a doubt I don't believe that anybody feels The way I do about you now And all the roads we have to walk along are winding And all the lights that lead us there are blinding There are many things that I would Like to say to you I don't know how Because maybe You're gonna be the one who saves me ? And after all You're my wonderwall Today was gonna be the day? But they'll never throw it back to you By now you should've somehow Realized what you're not to do I don't believe that anybody Feels the way I do About you now And all the roads that lead to you were winding And all the lights that light the way are blinding There are many things that I would like to say to you I don't know how I said maybe You're gonna be the one who saves me ? And after all You're my wonderwall I said maybe You're gonna be the one who saves me ? And after an You're my wonderwall Said maybe You're gonna be the one that saves me You're gonna be the one that saves me You're gonna be the one that saves me
Rukmani, the narrator, is Nathan's, her husband's, wonderwall. She is there whenever he needs her. When times are great, Rukmani is there but she is also right next to him when the times are rough. Nobody knows Nathan like her husband does. Together, they had a rough life, like a winding road, but they stick together, like a brick wall. They also know from the first moment they met that their relationship was going to be hard, but they kept with it, even when Rukmani found out about her husband's infidelity. When it was revealed to her, she did not make such a big deal about it. When they first met, Nathan wanted everything for Rukmani, he wanted to say that he would always care for here, but he did not know how to say the words. Instead, he proved this by building her a house with his bare hands and protecting her however he could. Rukmani also saved him from his dispair many times and filled him with reason. After all, she's his wonderwall.
Bad Day
by: David Powter
Where is the moment we needed the most You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost They tell me your blue skies fade to gray They tell me your passion's gone away And I don't need no carryin' on You stand in the line just to hit a new low You're faking a smile with the coffee you go You tell me your life's been way off line You're falling to pieces every time And I don't need no carryin' on Because you had a bad day You're taking one down You sing a sad song just to turn it around You say you don't know You tell me don't lie You work at a smile and you go for a ride You had a bad day The camera don't lie You're coming back down and you really don't mind You had a bad day You had a bad day Will you need a blue sky holiday? The point is they laugh at what you say And I don't need no carryin' on You had a bad day You're taking one down You sing a sad song just to turn it around You say you don't know You tell me don't lie You work at a smile and you go for a ride You had a bad day The camera don't lie You're coming back down and you really don't mind You had a bad day (Oooh.. a holiday..) Sometimes the system goes on the blink And the whole thing turns out wrong You might not make it back and you know That you could be well oh that strong And I'm not wrong (yeah...) So where is the passion when you need it the most Oh you and I You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost Cause you had a bad day You're taking one down You sing a sad song just to turn it around You say you don't know You tell me don't lie You work at a smile and you go for a ride You had a bad day You've seen what you like And how does it feel for one more time You had a bad day You had a bad day
"Bad Day" represents the life of the two main characters in Nectar in a Sieve. In the song David Powter talks about how everybody's blue sky turn gray. This is especially true when the two get married. At first their life seems great, like a blue sky. However, seven children later, they hit hard times. One line in the song mentions how one's life has been gray, exactly the way their lives are when they are kicked off their farm. The songs talks about how one can try to hide their misfortunes and bad luck. This is what the couple chooses to do. As Kenny, the doctor, said, she does not cry out for help when she needs it the most. She just sits there and accepts it.
All Around the World
by: Oasis
Its a bit early in the midnight hour for me, To go through all the things that I want to be, I dont believe in everything I see, Yknow Im blind so why dyou disagree Take me away, cos I just dont want to stay, And the lies you make me say are getting deeper every day, These are crazy days but they make me shine, Time keeps rolling by. All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, Youre gonna make a better day. All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. What you gonna do when the walls come falling down, You never move you never make a sound, When you gonna swin with the ridges that you found, If youre lost at sea well I hope that you drown, Take me away, cos I just dont want to stay, And the lies you make me say are getting deeper every day, These are crazy days but they make me shine, Time keeps rolling by. All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, And all around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. Nanana, nanana, nananana nananaaa, Nanana, nanana, nananana nananaaa, Naaaa, naaaa, naaaaa, naaaaa, nanananana, Nanananana, nanananana, All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, Youre gonna make a better day. And all around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. Cos all around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, Youre gonna make a better day. And all around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. Its gonna be okay.! Its gonna be okay.! Its gonna be okay.! Its gonna be okay.! All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, Youre gonna make a better day, Cos all around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, Youre gonna make a better day, All around the world, You gotta spread the word, Tell em what you heard, You know its gonna be okay. La lalalala la lalala la, La lalalala la lalala la. And I know what I know, What I know what I know, Yeah I know what I know, Its gonna be okay. And I know what I know, What I know what I know, Yeah I know what I know, Its gonna be okay. And I know what I know, What I know what I know, Yeah I know what I know, Its gonna be okay. And I know what I know, What I know what I know Yeah I know what I know Pigs dont fly - never say die.!!! So things are gonna fly - never say die.!!! Things are gonna fly - never say die. Nanana, nanana, Nananana nananaaa nanana, Nanana, nananana nananaaa Things are gonna fly - never say die.!!! So things are gonna fly - never say die.!!!
The song was chosen to represent the doctor, Kenny. Kenny travels all around the world, trying to spread the word about the needs and problems of the poor Indians. He collects donations by telling their stories in order to build the hospital which they need desperately. Kenny has gone through a lot in order to help the narrator and her town. His dedication actually causes his wife and children to leave him because they do not see him enough. "When the walls fall down" represents the trouble which Kenny went through to build the hospital. It took him seven years of prodding the hospital forward to get it done. Many hardships including falling walls set him back.
Dirty Little Secret
by: All-American Rejects
Let me know that I've done wrong When I've known this all along I go around a time or two Just to waste my time with you Tell me all that you've thrown away Find out games you don't wanna play You are the only one that needs to know I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret Who has to know When we live such fragile lives It's the best way we survive I go around a time or two Just to waste my time with you Tell me all that you've thrown away Find out games you don't wanna play You are the only one that needs to know I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret Who has to know The way she feels inside (inside) Those thoughts I can't deny (deny) These sleeping dogs won't lie (won't lie) And all I've tried to hide It’s eating me apart Trace this life out I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret) I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret Dirty little secret Dirty little secret Who has to know? who has to know?
The line "let me know that I've done wrong, when I've known this all along" represents the point in the story when Kunthi threatens the narrator to tell her secret about her little problem with conceiving children. Rukmani told Kenny to keep that their "dirty little secret." The line "when we live such fragile lives it's the best way we survive" represents the hardships in their lives. This includes the numerous famines and storms which upset the delicate balance of their lives.
Bittersweet Symphony
by: The Verve
'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life Trying to make ends meet You're a slave to money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet yeah No change, I can't change I can't change, I can't change But I'm here in my mind I am here in my mind But I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mind No, no, no, no, no, no, no,no,no,no,no,no(fading away) Well I never pray But tonight I'm on my knees yeah I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now No change, I can't change I can't change, I can't change But I'm here in my mind I am here in my mind And I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mind No, no, no, no, no, no, no I can't change I can't change it 'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life Trying to make ends meet Trying to find some money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet yeah You know I can't change, I can't change I can't change, I can't change But I'm here in my mind I am here in my mind And I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mind No, no, no, no, no I can't change my mind no, no, no, no, no, I can't change Can't change my body, no, no, no I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down Been down Ever been down Ever been down Ever been down Ever been down That you've ever been down That you've ever been down
The line "your're a slave to the money then you die" represents the narrator and her husband working the land always trying to have enough money to feed their growing family. Also it represents that Nathan worked up until just days before his death in order to have enough money to return to his old village. The line, "but here I'm in my mold" represents Nathan's daily life of just working day after day in the fields. The line "trying to make ends meet, trying to find somebody then you die" represents how even though the marriage was arranged, they couple worked well together and loved each other until their deaths. They had some rough spots, but they pulled out ahead.
Green Eyes
by: Coldplay
Honey you are a rock Upon which I stand And I come here to talk I hope you understand That green eyes, yeah the spotlight, shines upon you And how could, anybody, deny you I came here with a load And it feels so much lighter, now I’ve met you And honey you should know, that I could never go on without you Green eyes Honey you are the sea Upon which I float And I came here to talk I think you should know That green eyes, you’re the one that I wanted to find And anyone who, tried to deny you must be out of their mind Cause I came here with a load And it feels so much lighter, since I met you Honey you should know, that I could never go on without you Green eyes Green eyes Ohohohohooooo Ohohohohooooo Ohohohohooooo Ohohohohooooo Honey you are a rock Upon which I stand
The line "you are the rock upon which I stand" represents that the couple are each other's rocks. They rest and build upon each other and work together nicely. The line "I came here with a load and it feels so much lighter since I met you" represents how her life changed when she married Nathan. Before marriage she was full of insecurity, however after years of marriage and raising children, this disappeared and was replaced with confidence.
