-Although the narrator has never heard of an automobile, her life is a journey, even though she has never traveled anywhere.  It has it's up and downs, and rough spots.  But overall it's a positive experience.  It brings people together and closer, as her trials and tribulations only brought her closer to her husband.  But in the end (??) she surrives all of the problems (list).
